What the Western World Has Got Wrong About Sexuality and Sexual Energy

Things We Probably Need To Learn and Unlearn About Sex

Think about how here in the West we seem to be so open about sex – we talk about it all the time on our sitcoms, and use it to sell everything from a car to a carpet. And yet, there is a lot of shame and guilt around sex and our sexuality. It is actually such a fundamental energy within us all, but we treat it like some dirty secret! There is a dichotomy between the many cultural taboos surrounding sex, and the fact that this is powerful energy that impacts our mental and physical wellness. This is something that I spoke about with sex and relationship coach Kim Anami – a conversation that my friend Chad and I took forward in my latest episode.

Why we must look at sex through a wider prism.

We tend to think of sex as a furtive act, something to be hidden away and not to be discussed too much. This is because we often tend to think of sex in very narrow terms – as merely the act of intercourse – while in fact it is so much more. Our sexual energy doesn’t just have to be channeled into the actual act but into much else that is intimate, and pleasurable and fulfilling. For instance, simply holding hands can communicate a lot, bring deep joy, and can be an exchange of sexual energies!
Sexual energy is something that we all possess but which a lot of us may not have actually connected to within ourselves. What we speak of as charisma is actually just someone who has connected to their sexual energy; who is confident in feeling and owning that energy. This charisma is what makes a person more attractive and magnetic.
Some traditional societies spoke about the chakras, acupuncture healing points, meridians and so on. Activating these are actually just ways to align and tap into our own inner energies; to know about the power that resides within. Sexual energy can be so powerful that it may not even need touch to activate it. The masters could actually make love to a partner even if they were seated all the way across a room!

The mechanics of sex.

Did you know that it is possible for men to orgasm without ejaculating? Did you know that it is possible for men to increase their vigor and strength by preventing ejaculation and conserving semen? This can even help men go for hours without spending – not just for minutes as so many of us are made to believe is ‘normal’. Interestingly, Chad tells me about how Will Smith’s training for a movie included things like pool running and not being allowed to ejaculate. This was the time that his testosterone levels were off the charts and he was experiencing unprecedented levels of energy and vigor.
The fact is that our sexual health has an impact on so many other areas of life: not just physical health but also our psychological wellbeing, and emotional and mental health. So tune in to my chat with Chad and my two-part interview with Kim Anami to know how you can start to harness this powerful energy within you.
